The Center for Religion and Public Life (CRPL) has held an
educational engagement at the Redemption Baptist Church in Cape Coast to deepen
public understanding of the Ghana Human Rights and Family Values Bill and
issues relating to LGBTQ+ rights. The program forms part of CRPL’s ongoing
advocacy and educational initiatives aimed at promoting constructive dialogue
between faith and human rights.
The session brought together members of the faith community
to discuss the provisions and implications of the Family Values Bill and
explore how biblical teachings can guide conversations on justice, inclusion,
and respect for human dignity.
Participants received a detailed presentation on the content
and societal impact of the bill, followed by an open discussion on
non-discrimination, human dignity, and inclusivity. A Bible study session,
drawing from both the Old and New Testaments, emphasized the importance of
compassion, fairness, and love within faith communities.
The interactive dialogue created a safe space for
participants to ask questions, express their views, and engage in open
reflection. Many participants showed strong interest and appreciation for the
discussion, noting that it provided new insights into the intersection of faith
and human rights.
Although the topic initially drew cautious reactions, the
engagement ultimately encouraged greater openness and mutual understanding. It
also revealed a need for continued education, as some participants had limited
knowledge of the bill’s provisions.
Through this field activity, CRPL strengthened its mission
to foster conversations that promote tolerance, peaceful coexistence, and
respect for all individuals, regardless of background.
CRPL reaffirmed its commitment to advancing dialogue and
education that bridge the gap between religion and social responsibility,
contributing to a more inclusive and understanding society.
